Cranio-Sacral Therapy is an alternative medicine therapy used by osteopaths, massage therapists, naturopaths, and chiropractors. It is a gentle, hands on form of body therapy that evaluates and enhances the physiological system called the cranio-sacral system, a system comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding and protecting the brain and spinal cord. With the patient fully clothed, and using a soft touch, usually no heavier than the weight of a small coin, the therapist can tune in to the cranio-sacral rhythm and release restrictions in the system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
Cranio-sacral therapists work gently with the spine and the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia. In this way, the restrictions of nerve passages are eased, the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord is optimized, and misaligned bones are restored to their proper position. CST therapists use the therapy to treat mental stress, neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ Syndrome, and for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.
Few systems have as much impact on the human body as the cranio-sacral system. It protects and nourishes the brain and spinal cord, and affects nearly every aspect of central nervous system performance. That's why CST is so critical to your healthcare regimen. Developed after years of university research and testing, it allows the therapist to release fascial restrictions anywhere on the body that may be impinging the cranio-sacral system and, by extension, every other system it interacts with.
CST is a gentle technique that normalizes the cranio-sacral system and allows your body to self correct. By unraveling pain and dysfunction at the source, the therapist will naturally help eliminate stress, strengthen resistance to disease, and enhance your health in every dimension.
